The Heritage Council are hosting a free seminar  on LEADER Heritage Projects

The objectives of the day are to:

  1. Inform attendees of the LEADER process and governance requirements for community groups
  2. Outline the processes for obtaining the necessary heritage consents and permissions
  3. Inspire those in attendance in the development of innovative projects that best serve their communities

The event begins at 10am with a talk from a LEADER Programme Officer on the structure of the scheme. Following this, there will be talks from a licenced archaeologist (Dan Noonan), a grade 1 conservation architect (Fergal McNamara) and an ecologist (Dr. Janice Fuller). They will focus on how to go about obtaining the necessary permissions. Most of the day will be given over to lectures from representatives of successful heritage projects that have come through the LEADER process. These include:

  • Conserving St. Peter’s Church, Laragh, Co. Monaghan (speaker: Paula McCaul, Secretary, Laragh Heritage)
  • Renovating Carlingford’s Station House (speaker: Paraic McKevitt, architect, Paraic McKevitt Architects)
  • Community led regeneration in Callan, Co. Kilkenny (speaker: Etaoin Holahan, Curator at Fennelly’s)
  • Interpreting the abandoned medieval town of Rindoon, Co. Roscommon (speaker: Liam Mannix, IWTN Project Manager)
  • Conserving Carrickabraghy Castle, Co. Donegal (speaker: Patricia Stratford, Secretary, Carrickabraghy Restoration Society)
  • Developing a visitor experience in the Clock House, Youghal (speaker: Aileen Murray, Manager, Youghal Socio-economic Development Group)

From 12pm onwards and running parallel to the project talks, will be a series of free 25minute consultation sessions with the ecologist, archaeologist and architect combined. During these sessions a community group may ask for free advice on how to go about accomplishing their idea. There are seven sessions available. Please email to book a slot for your town/group.
