What image does ‘town twinning’ conjure up for you? In recent years, and particularly since the recession, twinning in Ireland has been less of a priority for many towns, sometimes even considered as unnecessary travel during straightened times…Customize & Schedule Social Media Posts

Community Engagement

As Irish society becomes increasingly diverse, partnering with European towns can achieve immense intercultural learning and positive community-based outcomes. Twinning between Ireland and newer member states like Poland, for example, can bring new communities together, while existing partners from France and Germany can build on long-held friendships.

Funding

Europe for Citizens is an EU programme that celebrates the diversity of Europe and its citizens. The 2014-2020 programme offers grants of up to €25,000 to fund town twinning projects involving two or more towns across the EU. Over the years, Irish town twinning associations have been awarded grants ranging from €5000 to €10,000.

  • Funding: Information on grants available under the ‘Europe for Citizens Programme’ for town twinning and networks of towns

  • Case Studies: Stories of success from lively town twinning projects in Ireland – an overview of successfull projects and how the community gets involved, plus their applications for funding
